• Learn to Play Craps – Tricks and Techniques: The Background of Craps

Be brilliant, play cunning, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was derived from the name of the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A few consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he designed the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
