Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. Most think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
