Be brilliant, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps developed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
