    [ English ]

Be brilliant, play brilliant, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
