Be smart, play cunning, and pickup craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French moved down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
