Be cunning, play clever, and learn how to play craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French headed south and located sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
